The good news is that our beloved Kirk (BTW, in his ‘sober humility’ he’d loathe me to call him that, I trust!) is out of surgery. The other news is in the headline of this post.
Here’s what Kirk’s Beloved Mrs. Kanzenbach has just written:

Dear friends and loved ones,
Dr. Harrison reported Kirk’s surgery went “very well.” Thanks be to God! It took almost 3 hours for the surgeon to remove 3 disks and replace them with bone from Kirk’s hip. He’s got a couple wounds to heal now, but the area for the spinal cord has been enlarged. God willing, there’s room for it to expand and send those messages to start moving some body parts that haven’t been able to function well (or at all) since the accident. The doctors tell us it’ll take about a year for us to see the actual permanent damage done (if any). For now, we have about 3 or 4 more weeks here in the hospital and then home for the rest of rehabilitation.
We thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your prayers, meals, and gifts. God reward you all!!
Sincerely and gratefully,
Bonni and Kirk Kanzenbach and family
